Four Poems|Lorraine Caputo

THE AFTERNOON RAINS HAVE COME AGAIN

Sometimes it showers

an hour before sunset

or perhaps between

midday & dusk

Sometimes the dawn breaks

with fog crawling

through valleys

& narrow streets

Sometimes the night

with a come-again rain

washing down the hills, down

the roofs, across the terrace

Sometimes a silent night

the full moon shining

through my bedroom window

upon my sleeping Self

RISE, ARISE

My eyes study the landscape of my

emotions, the deep gashes of

depression, the eroded

slopes of my dreams, I stretch

my neck, my wing-arms

and lift my self

into the

clearing

sky

THE BECKONING

Ashes of dreams drifted

in my awakened mind

In the distance some

where in the night fog, a church

clanged its bells, calling … calling …

SECRETS OF THE SELVA

I.
An orchid unfolds
its fleshy petals
slowly
over many days
& shortly
its beauty
begins to fade

II.
The rains do not come
when clouds rumble & flash,
grasping solar plexus,
tugging at the silver cord,
they do not come
when the wind blows
dust skyward

but only when a
silence, a stillness
settles within the forest
