Four Poems | Lynn White
Melting Away
She could still remember
the warm days of summer,
seaside holidays,
times without end.
Almost.
Tick tock.
But now the warmth is too much
and time is melting away
in the sun.
Tick tock, tick tock
goes her memory
curling up
in the heat
and dying
like a beached whale
lying there
dried out
dried up.
Time has run out.
It became too agile
as she stiffened
it curved
and ran
tick tock, tick tock, tick tock
her memory is running down,
repeating itself
out of shape
growing ever more distant
and now it’s out of time
tick tock, tick tock
tick tock
tick.
…..
Ascension
They said
we were joined
at the hip,
born that way.
But they were wrong.
We were more deliberate
than that.
And all our lives
we reached out
for each other,
lent a hand
for support.
And now
we can’t separate,
no
not even if we wanted to,
not even when we’ve tried to.
We’d already become part of each other
when we made our final move
up
into the heavens
ascending.
……
Reading The Signs
Give me a sign.
Let me know
if I’m welcome here
or if I should be anxious
and depart in haste.
Let me see
what lies
behind
the masks.
Make it clear.
…….
Time To Go
I drew up the blinds
and looked out
to where the daylight,
exposed all
before me.
I slid the bolt open
and unlocked the door.
I hesitated
but I knew
it was time,
time to leave this room
time to leave this place
time to leave the shadows
behind,
to put aside my doubts
put aside my veil
expose my face,
show myself
as I am
and leave my fears
behind me.
